Common Poker Mistakes – How Players Telegraph Their Hands

Are you annoyed that you always lose at poker? You are probably making one of these common poker mistakes that telegraph your hand.

Poker is a very interesting game. You don’t necessarily need the best cards to win. If you can guess, or know, what cards you opponent has you can play in a way that will make them lose.

The biggest ways players can figure out what their opponents cards are is by reading tells. The biggest tells telegraph the strength of your hand. It is important to avoid these to prevent any of your opponents from figuring out your hand.

Common Poker Mistakes – Telegraphing You Hand Mistake #1

The first mistake players do is they look at their cards as soon as they are dealt and if they have a good hand their eyes light up and they sit up confident and straight. You need to avoid doing this.

Always watch everyone else first as the cards are dealt. Once they have reacted, take a sly look at your cards and always sit back casually, making sure to always act in the same way no matter if you have pocket aces or a 7-2.

The second mistake players make is they vary the sizes of their bet according to how strong their cards are. I.e. they bet out with pockets or paint, the limp in with SC’s or mid-PP’s and they fold with junk.

This is bad because you bet is telling your opponent what cards you have. You want to always be betting the same amount no matter what you have. This will conceal your hand.

Another mistakes players make is they don’t vary the quality of hands they play. They always stick to the same types of hole cards through and through.

You can tell this player because he will play about the same amount of hands an hours every single hour. He is only playing from a strict set of rules. This is good for newer players, however, makes it very easy to guess what cards you are playing.

Mix it up a little. Play some poor cards just to test the waters.
