Texas Hold Em Poker Rules From Start To Finish

Every player is given two cards or hole cards to play. Betting shortly follows and the flop – or three community cards are drawn. Community cards must be combined with the player’s hole card in order to win the game.

After the flop has been dealt, bets are once again placed and another card – called the turn, is exposed. Another round of betting comes after this which is then followed with the last community card – the river.

Players have several betting options. They can either check, bet, raise or fold after every deal but this needs to be done before community cards are drawn.

To check means that the player has chosen to pass or not place a bet. This can only be done, before the bets have opened. Opening a bet means starting the bet for that particular round. To raise, means increasing the size of the bet, forcing the rest to comply.

Lastly, folding means to stop playing and forfeit one’s potential claim on the pot or prize money. No further bets may be required; however, the player also can no longer win.

If majority of the players fold, the pot will automatically go to the player who has not folded. He will also not be required to show his hole card.

However with two or more active players, a showdown must occur where each player needs to combine his hole cards and community cards to achieve the best poker hand.

A player may use both, one or none of his hole cards together with the community cards.
