Texas Holdem has been popular for quite some time but not everyone is acquainted with its rules. The game doesn’t confuse you with loads of do’s and don’ts. And there are only a few things that need to be followed. Here are some simple Texas Holdem rules:

The game commences after players are given two hole cards each. Hole cards are individual cards that must be dealt face down and may be combined with community cards to make up the winning combination or hand of the game.

Another option may be to use only community cards during the game’s end, at the showdown.

Simple Texas Holdem Rules: Pre-flop Betting

Once all players have their hole cards, pre flop betting begins. In a betting round, players can choose to open, raise, check or fold.

Simply put, opening a bet simply means you are the first one to place a wager; raising is increasing the bet, checking is declining to bet and folding is leaving the game. Unlike the other betting options, a player loses all chances of winning the pot one he folds.

Simple Texas Holdem Rules: The Community Cards

After the first betting round, the first three community cards – ‘the flop’ is dealt face up and placed in the center of the table.

This is followed by two more rounds of betting and two more community cards. The fourth community card is called the turn, the fifth is called the river.

The game ends when all players who have not folded compare hand rankings or card combinations in a showdown.

It is important to remember that community cards are only drawn after the burn card is ‘discarded’. Burn cards are cards which are not included in the game and are usually taken from the top of the deck to prevent cheating or second dealing.

Second dealing is a technique most performance magicians do wherein they get the second instead of the topmost card.
