Texas Hold Em Strategy – Tips for Playing Suited Connectors

Here are some great tips for playing suited connectors that will really increase your odds of winning when playing these pocket cards.

  1. Play these types of hands from as late positions as you can, this way you can assess the activity of the table before you commit.
  2. Get to the flop and see where you stand. All your strength with these hands lays in your ability to match with the flop (and one than presumably opponents playing premium hands won’t have matched with)
  3. You must have hit 4 of the 5 cards you need on the flop at a minimum. If you only have three do not pursue.
  4. Try to avoid committing large amounts of chips preflop. Like I said, get to the flop to see where you stand.

There are two schools of betting, one is the cheap way and the other is the aggressive way. The cheap way aims to limp in, check and call to move forward through the cards until you hit your 5 card hand. The aggressive way does an average amount of betting along the way, for various reasons.

  1. I prefer aggressive and think this is actually the less risky option. This is for a few reasons:
  2. You sometimes win the pot because your opponent folds because you bet out
  3. You jack up the pot so that it is bigger when you do win

Because I play an aggressive style, it covers my tracks a bit, as in, I don’t give away I am playing a weaker hand. This allows me to maintain my table image.

In this article I’ve gone through a lot of Texas Hold Em Strategy tips for playing suited connectors. The key takeaway here is that the strength of these hands is in landing the killer straight or flush, so make sure you test tho water before you pot commit.

I’m sure you are realizing that playing suited connectors can be a powerful addition to your poker strategy if you know how to play them the right way, and the way to do that is to research up and learn what you need to learn to do that.
