When playing Texas Holdem, generally, going all in with less money than other players isn’t a good idea. There are a couple reasons for this, which I will elaborate on in this article. Read more now to find out.

No Limit Texas Holdem is a funny game. You can go all in whenever you want. Usually this is a powerful, brazen move that makes the other players shake a quiver in fear. However, when you actually have a smaller stack then the other players this move doesn’t have the same emphasis. Sometimes in Texas Holdem, going all in with less money than other players isn’t the best idea.

- They Will Call You

The first issue you will run into when playing Texas Holdem and going all in wit less money than other players is that your opponents will very likely call you. The reason is that they are risking far less by betting only part of their overall stack than you are by betting your whole stack. Your competition has an incentive to call you as well – they don’t want you to grab a few wins and sneak back into the game. They will call you to keep your truthful; to make sure you actually have good cards and aren’t playing loose. They know that as long as they restrict what cards you play and when they can keep control over you and snuff you out.

- You Must Have Good Cards

The second issue which I touched on briefly is the issue of cards. When you have are going all in with less money than other players you must have decent cards. You cannot try to bluff or play loose because in all probability they will call you. You need to have good cards if you ever expect to stand a chance. The plus side is that if you do win you’ll get a nice pot and you’ll be one step closer to being back in the game. The down side is that great cards rarely come along.

So now you know these two issues with going all in when you have less money than other players, you can see that there are a few pre-requisites before you do indeed go all in. So the next time you are in this situation think about these two points before you make your move.
